All of the courses we offer are listed below with a brief overview of the content, delivery method and cost.

We are happy to discuss alternative pricing structures for those who have larger training requirements.

Muirburn Practitioner Foundation Course

This course will equip the student with an understanding of the Muirburn Code and its requirements and restrictions as well as the considerations needed for the safe and appropriate application of fire.

The costs is £250 per person.

The course is split into 2 separate parts:

Part 1 – elearning module, this will cover the Muirburn Code and is assessed to ensure the student has a good understanding of the regulatory framework that Muirburn takes place within. This can be completed at your own location on your own.

Part 2 – Practical module, The practical module will cover the basics on how to safely use equipment, both mechanical and non-mechanical, the correct PPE, the on the day considerations such as weather and wildfire danger assessments, the safe application of fire and post burn considerations. Assessment will be via direct observation and knowledge and understanding checks. The location of this course will be discussed at the time of booking to ensure a suitable site can be agreed.

The practical module will cover:

· Identifying the correct PPE

· The safe use of hand tools

· The safe use of mechanical equipment

· Weather Considerations including Wildfire Danger Assessments

· Identification and creation of fire breaks

· Safely applying fire

· Safely extinguishing fire, including post burn monitoring

· Communications

· Team safety and wellbeing.

Ongoing assessment throughout the practical module is used to ensure that students have achieved the correct understanding and have the required skills to successfully complete the course.

Wildfire Risk Management Courses

We have 3 courses that cover the Wildfire Risk Management process, each of which focuses on specific sectors: Land Management, Forest Management or Wind Farm Management. The Course is classroom based and runs from approximately 10.00am until 3.30-4.00pm. We can accommodate up to 12 people in the course (depending on room size) and have various options for pricing depending on numbers of attendees.

The cost is £250 per person

Ideally this course is delivered at your premises, if this isn’t an option then we can use a suitable venue nearby, however this would incur additional cost.

The course covers the following:

Context and history of wildfires in Scotland, including changes in land management, muirburn, climate change and human impact
Risk assessment, including how to carry out a risk assessment and keep it current.
Risk management, turning the risk assessment into active management.
Firefighting, the pros and cons of having a firefighting capability, and the steps to take to have first responders in your team.
Supporting the Fire Service at wildfires, including what information should be provided, post fires consideration, expectations and responsibilities.
Wildfire plans and what they should contain.
Local Fire Groups, the benefits and wider resilience

We use scenarios and plenary discussion to ensure all attendees have understood the days learning.

Small Fire Suppression and Wildfire Awareness Course

This Course is Classroom based and runs from approximately 10.00am until 2.00pm.

We can accommodate up to 12 people in the course (depending on room size)

The cost is £200 per person

Ideally this course is delivered at your premises, if this isn’t an option then we can use a suitable venue nearby, however this would incur additional cost.

The course covers the following:

Recognise when a fire is a risk.
Understand how to raise the alarm, and the information that the Fire Service will need.
Understand the risks that a small fire presents.
Know how to extinguish a small fire using various methods and the correct equipment to use.
Understand why PPE is important and the correct PPE to use.
Understand wildfire awareness.
Understand the wildfire Danger Assessment and where to find them.
How to be prepared for evacuation from wildfire.
Know how to evacuate safely if there is a wildfire in the area.

There is a short assessment at the end of the day to confirm the information has been understood by everyone

Supporting the Fire Service

This Course is Classroom based and runs from approximately 10.00am until 2.00pm.

All attendees must have successfully completed the Muirburn Practitioners Foundation Course.

The course covers the following:

· The context and legal framework the Fire Service operates from.

· Planning and preparations before an incident

· Equipment, training, PPE and Insurance.

· Actions on arrival at an incident

· Cordons and Incident Command Structures

· Expectations of behaviour and responsibilities while at the Incident

· Safety including the LACES Protocol

· Communications and Tasking

· Post Incident Considerations including participation in debriefs.

There is a short assessment at the end of the day to confirm the information has been understood by everyone
